A Simpler Time Farm we strive to preserve the Kunekune Heritage breed by offering only the best of our litters as quality registered breeding stock; We DO NOT offer unregistered gilts or boars, EVER!
We do, however, castrate select boars and offer them as companions, pets or meat barrows for you to raise on your own farm or homestead!
Breeding stock: best suited for those who wish to start or diversify their own Kunekune pork production. We only offer the best boars and best gilts of our litters as Registered breeding stock; those that we, personally, feel will carry on the positive attributes & traits of the Kunekune breed, ensuring the maintenance of this Heritage breed for future generations of farmers.
Each of our A Simpler Time Farm Kunekunes is observed from farrowing and hand selected for their wonderful personalities, for meeting the breed standard and conformation qualities that we've set forth on our farm. Thus, only passing on the best genetics to future generations from our beloved breeding stock.
All of our breeding stock are registered through AKKPS, or dual registered through AKKPS & IKHR.
A Simpler Time Farm Registered boar: starting price $1000
A Simpler Time Farm Registered gilt: starting price $1000
Companion, Pet or Meat stock: best suited for those looking to add a companion or a pet pig to their farm, and for those who wish to raise their own meat pig. These barrows did not meet the standards that we set out on our farm for breeder registration, but they are all perfectly suitable to be companions, pets or grown out for your own meat. These guys are just as handsome as the rest!
A Simpler Time Farm Barrows: $300 at weaning, increasing with size and age.
Barrows are often available as companions for our young breeding stock.
A Simpler Time Farm Kunekune Starter Packages:
The above mentioned A Simpler Time Farm Starter Packages, 1, 3 & 4, are comprised of breeders who will yield a less than 5% COI for their future offspring when bred together. If investing in a trio the two gilts will not be siblings, a benefit to you, for diversity in future reproductivity on your farm.
Please contact us for pricing and availability on starter packages.
Our price ranges are reflective of many factors: including but not limited to the Canadian market price, conformation and lineage; just to name a few. All sales are in accordance with our Animal Sales Policy and include the cost of registration, de-worming, piglet shots and ear tags.
A 50% deposit is required to hold your piglet(s) and full payment is required before any livestock departs A Simpler Time Farm properties.
Since Kunekunes are herd animals and feel most comfortable with other members of their species we strongly suggest they be purchased in groups of two or more when an existing herd is not already in place on your farm. Please keep in mind, and we cannot stress this enough, breeding boars and gilts must be separated by 6 months of age until they are ready to breed and they will need compatible companions during their separation period(s). We highly recommend our breeding trios with companions if you're just starting out on your pork production journey, this will ensure your future breeder(s) will come with a companion barrow to keep them company until the reintroduction time, at which time you could choose to process the companion, or keep them as a buddy in the future if you plan to separate your boars and sows when not breeding, which we also recommend.
Popular pasturing options that we recommend to folks just starting out:
* If investing in a duo, trio, or more please remember to keep each of your pastures occupied with two or more pigs, to ward off loneliness and depression.
